If you face significant challenges in receiving dental treatment, our dentists may recommend general anesthesia to ensure a comfortable and complication-free experience. General anesthesia puts you into a sleep-like state, allowing you to wake up with your dental procedure already completed.
General Anesthesia Is Recommended For:
- Children who are unable to remain calm or relaxed during treatment
- Complex procedures that are difficult to perform while the patient is awake (such as oral surgeries)
- Patients with severe dental anxiety or phobia
- Individuals with a strong gag reflex
- Patients needing extensive dental work completed in one appointment
- Individuals with special needs or disabilities that make it difficult to follow directions or safely receive treatment
General anesthesia is typically administered through injection or inhalation. To ensure comfort, we also use a local anesthetic, keeping you numb upon waking and as the general anesthetic gradually wears off.
If you are receiving general anesthesia, you must bring someone to your appointment to drive you home safely and have someone available to stay with you during your recovery period.
Our dentists and team will provide detailed pre- and post-anesthesia instructions to help ensure a smooth, safe treatment and a comfortable recovery.
